A queen size bed has to do a lot. It holds you through bad nights and lazy Sunday mornings, carries the weight of a good book and a restless partner, and still has to look considered enough that you do not want to shut the bedroom door. Spacious without taking over the room, a queen size bed gives solo sleepers room to sprawl and couples enough personal territory to avoid the nightly blanket negotiations. It's no surprise queen beds remain one of the most popular choices for apartments, family homes, and guest bedrooms alike.
Our queen bed frames are designed for lived-in spaces and lived-in routines. Think solid wood frames that age beautifully, upholstered queen beds that soften the room instantly, and storage designs that work harder than they look. From warm oak finishes to plush fabric textures, every queen bed balances comfort, durability, and elevated design. Available in a range of profiles from low-profiles to wingback headboards that cocoon you, each queen bed frame is designed to make the room feel like yours.
A standard Canadian queen mattress measures 60 inches wide by 80 inches long (152 cm by 203 cm). Canadian sizing matches US sizing exactly, so frames, sheets, and mattress protectors bought on either side will fit without issue. The bed frame will run slightly larger than the mattress: typically 64 to 66 inches wide and 83 to 86 inches long, depending on the design. A slim platform frame stays close to the mattress footprint; a fully upholstered frame or sleigh bed will claim more floor space.
Ideally, a bedroom should be at least 10 ft x 10 ft (3 m x 3 m) to fit a queen bed comfortably. This allows enough space for movement, bedside tables, and wardrobe access without the room feeling cramped. If you want bedside tables on both sides, which most people do, 11 by 13 feet is a more practical target.
For secondary bedrooms, measure carefully. A well-chosen double in a smaller room often functions better than a crowded queen.
A king size bed measures 76 by 80 inches—the same length as a queen bed but 16 inches wider, giving each person 38 inches of sleeping width rather than 30. That extra space makes a real difference for restless sleepers, light sleepers who disturb each other, or anyone regularly sharing the bed with a child or a dog. The honest check is your room: a king needs at least 12 by 12 feet to breathe comfortably. If your bedroom fits a king well, with proper clearance and room for the furniture that needs to live alongside it, the upgrade is usually worth it. If you are fitting it in at the expense of the rest of the room, a queen in a well-proportioned space will feel more considered every single day.
A Canadian double (also called a full) measures 54 by 75 inches. A queen is 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer (60 by 80 inches). Those numbers translate to 30 inches of personal sleeping width per person on a queen versus 27 on a double. For a single sleeper, a double works fine and saves meaningful floor space. For two adults sharing a bed long-term, the jump from double to queen is one of the most noticeable comfort improvements you can make.
